2021 Flooring Trends With The Experts at Fame Hardwood
With an ever-evolving home industry, the year 2020 brought some additional shifts in the design and building markets.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a variety of changes in the way we view our home life and the products that we incorporate within. Additionally, more people are taking the time to invest in their personal spaces, as we work, live, and play at home.
With a showroom located in Beverly Hills, CA, Fame Hardwood is not your traditional flooring company. The brand prides itself on the latest flooring trends, never-before-seen stains and colors, custom finishing methods, finest installation techniques, and the overall art that is a well-done wood floor.
Page founded Fame Hardwood on the belief the wood flooring trade needed a complete upgrade. From the way wood was harvested, milled, manufactured, stained, & finished to cutting down lead times, production costs, and eliminating the word "can't" from our vocabulary. This idea has blossomed into the buzz-worthy company responsible for scraping the faded varnish off the industry's status quo and applying a fresh coat of bold, innovative ideas.
Today, Page is sharing his expert insight into 2021 flooring trends and how things are changing this year.
In some ways, the pandemic has an impact on changing flooring trends. Overall, the trend has gone towards a simpler, cleaner looking floor with little to no wire brush and texture. Homeowners are seeking tranquility and peace from all the noise outside in the real world and want floors that help reach that serenity. Trends are gearing more towards fewer knots, less grain pattern, fewer stains, and less wire brush where dirt can get trapped.
Here are a few specific trends that we're seeing:
More select grade floors: Select grade means a cleaner floor with fewer knots and variations. It’s become more popular since homeowners are looking to quiet all the extraneous noise happening in the world. Calmness and serenity begin at home and a select grade floor is the best way to achieve that on the floors.
More rift cut: Some clients want to shell out for even more serenity and we have been seeing a huge demand for rift cut flooring- cuts of lumber that are only linear grain and not wavy or cathedral. This streamlined look gives more of a linear pattern without much movement.
Shift toward more natural looks and colors, pale tones: The shift towards natural looks and pale tones is to make it easier to lighten the rooms and match surrounding furniture and design pieces easier. Pale floors can go with black, white, and grey perfectly and are a great canvas to start from.
Longer length boards: Longer lengths are in for the simple reason clients are tired of what I call the “morse code” flooring- a blend of short, medium, and long planks. It causes too many breaks in the sequence and a staccato feel. Longer planks give a sense of harmony and rhythm.
