Do interior designers need and use their own website?

Are you wondering if as an interior designer you really need a website? Or maybe you have one but you’re not convinced to use it well? Then, this is article is perfect for you!

We often hear business owners deciding to only focus their efforts on social media. If this can indeed be enough at a certain point, having an (up-to-date) website will open new doors and opportunities for you. If you want to establish yourself as an interior designer and if you want to keep growing your business then having a website and using it properly is going to be a game-changer!

Keep reading to make sure your website is optimized and to learn how to best use it on a regular basis.

-        Wow and inspire your visitors with stunning visuals

Your website is your portfolio. This is where potential clients will go to see the type of projects you work on, to understand your style, and to decide if they want to work with you or not.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we highly recommend having professional pictures taken of your projects.

Keep your website fresh and up-to-date with these new pictures. We often see interior designers having a website but putting all their new pictures only on social media. By updating regularly your website, you will best reflect the current version of your business and attract the right kind of clients.

-        Make it functional & easy to navigate

The user experience of a website is extremely important. You can spend hours working on your site but if at the end of the day it is hard to navigate and find information people will leave without coming back.

Make it mobile-friendly, have clear call-to-action buttons, and make sure your text is well spaced out. We have a tendency to want to write a lot but ask yourself if you could be more concise and summarize a paragraph in a couple of sentences instead. This will result in having a less-cluttered website and a more enjoyable experience.

-        Highlight the services you want clients to be booking

In the same logic as the previous point, you might be able to do a lot of different projects but you don’t have to highlight every little thing you do. Otherwise, this can feel overwhelming for visitors and also result in clients booking projects you actually aren’t passionate to work on anymore.

Less is more. Be extra clear and ask yourself which projects you want clients to be booking. These will give you guidance on where to focus. Your star projects should be the ones popping out when we visit your website. In the blink of an eye, visitors should be able to know that you are offering these.

-        Make your about page more personal

The About Page is too often overlooked yet it is a really important section of your website. It can act as a decisive factor for your clients to pick you over someone else.

Offers can be similar and almost identical from one business to another but no interior designer is the same. You have a unique approach, experience, and style. You have a unique personality and way of working. This is why your clients will pick you. And your About Page is the perfect place to share more about that side of you.

Don’t feel like you need to make it super professional like a resume. The more you will let your personality shine the better visitors will understand who you are.

Talk about your education, your experience, rewards or certifications you may have earned, publications you have been featured in… but also why you have decided to be an interior designer, your mission and why you started your own business, projects you love to work on and why, and finish by adding a few fun non-related to business facts about you.

Make sure to include a picture of you. Adding a face to a name will help you to be remembered.

-        Share your expertise through a blog

Having a blog section on your website makes your site less static and more lively. It is not only a great opportunity to regularly drive traffic on your platform but also to share fresh content that features your expertise.

Think of ways to help your future customers - what questions do they have, what struggles are they facing, what do they want to learn about? And write articles answering these questions.

Make sure to also re-share these blogs on your social media platforms.
