The Value of PR to Interior Designers

The higher the quality the higher the value. The two go hand in hand! This mindset can be applied to just about everything in the business world. When it comes to public relations, it’s extremely important to put effort and resources into using a high quality PR vision if you want the value to constantly increase. We are not talking value in terms of money, but value in terms of results such as getting more traction with clients and other businesses! Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when trying to create value around your interior design firm.

Keep Up With Design Trends

This is huge. Falling behind on trends can demolish a reputation in all businesses, especially interior design. Getting hired to make a space unique and personal to a certain brand is what all clients desire, but they also don’t want to pay for a service that applies old knowledge. This doesn’t mean that styles from the 60’s can’t come back into style, it just means be aware of the changes happening yearly and sometimes even monthly. The last thing you want is to suggest a product or piece of furniture that is made by a company that is going through a scandal that the whole world knows about, but you!

Provide Great Content

Creating something relevant and useful nowadays is unfortunately not enough to actually stay relevant. The product needs to be bold, unique and disruptive to the design world. When you have something that is worthy of comotion, the world needs to see it. A good PR company will help get the word out, a GREAT PR company will get people talking! Not only will PR help created a conversation about your company and what it is doing, it will also make sure that people understand what the design is all about. When people understand the factors that go into design, they are able to relate in-turn creating a sense of resonance and brand awareness.

Be Honest!

You know what they say, “Honesty is the best policy.” However, this aspect is delicate and needs to be treated with sensitivity. When releasing company information, stretch the truth is a no-no as well as hiding things from the public! Try being authentic and your story will be told well. Doing otherwise would only hurt your brand. Utilize public relations to create that authenticity and use the brand’s voice in order to do so. Clients and customers appreciate that you are human, it makes you more relatable and they put more value into your company because you’re honest. Just to be clear, this does not mean that you should over share. There are certain things that should be addressed and others that should remain within the company and taken care of. Deciding which is which is your prerogative.

Consistency

Brand awareness is not built overnight. PR needs to be on top of things from the beginning and stay consistent. PR long term plans are extremely helpful and gives everyone involved a good idea of what should be expected over a certain amount of time. Once this is laid out, make sure to implement! If your goals are not met over a chosen period of time, outsourcing a PR agency could be helpful.
