Instagram tips for Interior Designers

Instagram is a great tool to connect with potential clients and raise brand awareness. We’ve listed our tips to make sure your Instagram can serve your business the best way possible.

1.       Audience

Before doing anything else, make sure you know your audience.

Who are they and what are they looking for? Every piece of content you will post needs to talk directly to them in a tone of voice they recognize and appreciate.

Identifying your audience is key to stay relevant.

2.       Message

Define your message and what ideas you want to share on your feed. When people will visit your page, what do you want them to think of and how would you like to be remembered?

3.       Style

Instagram is highly visual. You want to make sure you spend time curating your style. What kind of grid do you want? How do you want to layout to look like? With quotes in the middle, with one specific color highlighted? There are plenty of different styles you can pick. Make it intentional. Consider your Instagram as a website. How would you like your front page to look like?

4.       Select

Pick your images carefully. You don’t have to share all your pictures. Pick the ones that go well with the aesthetic and share the right message.

5.       Content

Having a hard time knowing what to post? Here is a list of topics you can share and talk about:

-          Show your past projects

-          Show before/after pictures

-          Share your expertise: explain your point of view on a specific topic, how you would resolve a tricky situation

-          Talk about your services and why it’s a great investment

-          Give tips on how to do some things on your own

-          Share your “behind the scenes” – how you prep your work, how you get organized,

-          Talk about creativity: how and where you find your inspiration

-          Share something more personal: who are you, why did you choose to be an interior designer

-          Inspire your followers: share a quote, a beautiful picture, and talk about why interior design is important.

-          Repost and give credit to other work and share why you particularly love this design

-          Give more technical tips and advice

6.       Community

Social media is about creating a more intimate relationship with your customers. Take advantage of the platform to ask direct questions, to make them vote on which color they like the best, for example. Make them participate. Before you want to launch a new service, ask their opinion.

7.       Interact

Interact on Instagram how you would like your followers to interact with you. Respond and leave comments, reshare inspiring content, follow accounts that are aligned with your business. Be an active user.

8.       Plan

Creating on the spot can not only lead to more work but also not a very strategic plan. Instead, take a few hours at the beginning of the month or every two weeks to plan your Instagram content. Make sure everything aligns and supports your message and that the esthetic is respected.

Try one of the many scheduling tools such as Later or Planoly.

Enjoy how good it feels to see your post being posted automatically throughout the month and to stay on track of your schedule.

Being an active user, posting regularly, and monitoring your account will really make the difference. This is a platform that is in constant movement and you want to make sure to be seen. Instagram can create deep connections with your customers and future clients. Be intentional with your Instagram strategy and see the benefits it can have on your business.
